Blizzard warning issued for New York City, Long Island, and New Jersey until Monday (23 February)

As per reports, a rapidly intensifying storm has triggered blizzard warnings for New York City, Long Island, and New Jersey from 0600 hours local time (1100 hours UTC) on Sunday (22 February) to 1800 hours local time (2300 hours UTC) on Monday (23 February) .

• The National Weather Service has confirmed the storm’s increasing intensity.
• Forecasts indicate heavy snowfall of 30 to 61 cm across several areas. In some locations, the storm may begin as rainfall before rapidly intensifying into heavy snowfall.
• Flooding remains a concern in parts of New York and New Jersey.
• Strong winds of 40 to 56 kph are expected, making travel dangerous or potentially impossible.
• The storm is expected to reach areas near Washington DC on Sunday (22 February) morning, then move north toward Philadelphia and New York City. The system is forecast to arrive in Boston by Sunday (22 February) evening.
• Heavy snowfall and strong winds could down tree branches and cause scattered power outages.
