As per reports, the annual wildfire season in Alberta is expected to commence from 01 March and continue until 31 October.
• Officials have stated that preparations are underway, with the highest risk period anticipated during April and May, following the melting of snowfall and before new vegetation growth occurs.
• Weather forecasts indicate March is expected to be normal, but officials have described April and May as critical months for wildfire activity.
• Key areas of concern include southern Alberta, which has experienced warm and dry conditions. A stretch of the central boreal zone from Peace River to Lac La Biche has been flagged as a priority monitoring area after recording a one-in-50-years lack of rainfall last year.
• Fire hazard reduction burns, along with hiring and training of personnel, are currently in progress.
