BOM issues severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Queensland on Friday (20 February)

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Queensland on Friday (20 February), with slow-moving thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall across multiple forecast districts during the morning hours.

• Affected forecast districts include Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Central Coast and Whitsundays, Central West, and Central Highlands and Coalfields.
• According to the Bureau, a trough combined with a moist airmass is sustaining thunderstorm activity across the state. Severe thunderstorms are likely to generate heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding within the warning area over the next several hours.
• Locations that may be affected include Proserpine, Charters Towers, Bowen, Townsville, Ayr, Hamilton Island, Pentland, Giru, Alva Beach, Clare, Torrens Creek, and Rollingstone.
