Cold wave expected in Oaxaca on Sunday (25 January)

As per reports, unstable weather conditions are expected across the state of Oaxaca on Sunday (25 January) due to the passage of cold front number 30. The cold air mass associated with this system has reached the Gulf of Mexico and is advancing toward the southeast, affecting weather conditions statewide.

As per the State Coordination of Civil Protection and Risk Management (CEPCyGR), rainfall is expected mainly in the northern and northeastern areas of the state. Low cloud cover and very dense fog are reported in several zones, reducing visibility. A noticeable drop in temperatures is expected, particularly during nighttime and early morning hours.

• As per forecasts issued by the National Water Commission (Conagua), temperatures are expected to fall below freezing in high-altitude areas of the Mixteca, Sierra de Juárez, Sierra Sur, and Central Valleys regions. Frost conditions are possible in these areas. Windy conditions across the state are expected to increase the sensation of cold during daytime hours.
• A northerly wind event is expected to begin in the eastern part of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, with wind gusts ranging between 90 and 100 kilometres per hour. The most affected area is expected to be the La Venta–La Ventosa highway corridor.
• Sea conditions in the Gulf of Tehuantepec are expected to deteriorate, with wave heights expected to exceed 3 metres.
