Teachers protest reported in Leipzig on Wednesday (21 January)

As per reports, approximately 1,200 teachers demonstrated at Richard Wagner Square in central Leipzig on Wednesday, (21 January), calling for higher pay and improved working conditions.

• The protest was organised by the Gewerkschaft Erziehung und Wissenschaft, alongside other education sector unions.
• The action was part of broader labour negotiations concerning employees of Germany’s federal states.
• The protest was directed at regional and state level authorities responsible for education policy and employment conditions.
• Organisers indicated that additional strike actions are planned in other parts of Saxony in the coming days.
