Kazhydromet issues weather warnings across Kazakhstan on Saturday (17 January)

As per reports, Kazakhstan is forecast to experience widespread severe winter weather between Saturday (17 January) and Sunday (18 January), driven by anticyclonic and cyclonic activity. Authorities have issued multiple storm warnings across several regions.

• Snow, blizzards and blowing snow are expected across Mangystau, Turkestan, Kyzylorda, Karaganda, Aktobe, Atyrau, West Kazakhstan, Almaty, Zhetysu and East Kazakhstan regions on Saturday (17 January), with localised snowstorms forecast in northern, western, southern and central areas.
• Reportedly, rainfall and snow are expected in Shymkent, Turkestan and surrounding areas, with periods of heavier precipitation forecast at night. Persistent fog and icy conditions are expected across Mangystau, Aktau, Shymkent, Turkestan, Kyzylorda, Karaganda, Aktobe, Atyrau and Almaty, increasing surface slipperiness on roads and exposed infrastructure.
• Strong easterly to northeasterly winds, with sustained speeds of 15 to 20 meters per second and localised gusts reaching 23 meters per second, are forecast across large parts of the country, including Kyzylorda, Karaganda, Aktobe, Atyrau, West Kazakhstan, Mangystau and Turkestan regions. Gusty wind conditions are also expected in major urban centres such as Kyzylorda city, Atyrau city, Aktobe city, Aktau and Kunayev.
• Severe frost conditions are expected overnight in Karaganda, East Kazakhstan, Zhetysu and northern Almaty regions, with minimum temperatures forecast to fall to minus 35 to minus 45 degrees Celsius in northern and eastern areas, particularly between the night of Saturday (17 January) and Sunday (18 January).
