As per reports, the Bulgarian health authorities have officially declared an influenza epidemic in Varna Province effective Wednesday (14 January), with a sharp rise in cases prompting emergency measures.

• Neighboring provinces Burgas, Dobrich, and Silistra are on high alert, with epidemics expected imminently due to similar surges.
• The outbreak, primarily influenza A (H3N2 and H1N1 strains), has overburdened clinics and hospitals, with symptoms including high fever, cough, fatigue, and complications in vulnerable groups.
• The affected areas include Varna Province (Varna city, Golden Sands, rural districts), Burgas Province (Burgas city, Sunny Beach), Dobrich Province (Dobrich city, Balchik), and Silistra Province (Silistra city, Tutrakan).
