Volcanic ash advisory issued for Mount Semeru, East Java on Friday (09 January)

As per the Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Darwin (VAAC Darwin), explosive volcanic activity at Mount Semeru has continued, with a volcanic ash plume rising up to 18,000 feet (FL180) and drifting in a southeastward direction at approximately 10 knots.

The advisory was issued at 1625 hours (local time) on Friday (09 January), based on satellite observations and ground reports. Authorities noted that intermittent ash emissions remain ongoing, although ash visibility on satellite imagery is intermittently obscured due to meteorological cloud cover.
