As per reports, the All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) has announced a 12-hour statewide Assam bandh (shutdown) on Friday (09 January).

• This follows the dissatisfaction with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s remarks regarding the pending issue of granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to six indigenous communities.
• The organisation stated that the shutdown will be enforced if the State Government does not clarify its position on whether the ministerial committee report on tribal status has been forwarded to the Central Government by Wednesday (07 January).
