Adverse weather conditions forecast in parts of South Africa on Sunday (04 January)

As per reports, on Sunday (04 January), the South African Weather Service issued impact based severe weather warnings for widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across South Africa.

• An Orange Level five warning was issued for severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall and strong damaging winds expected during the day on Sunday (04 January) from morning through evening.
• Provinces under the Orange Level five warning include Gauteng, eastern Free State, eastern North West, western Limpopo, and the Highveld of Mpumalanga.
• A Yellow Level two warning was also issued for severe thunderstorms with localised flooding and isolated infrastructure damage.
• Areas under the Yellow Level two warning include north eastern Northern Cape, western Free State, western North West, western KwaZulu Natal, and the escarpment regions of Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
• In Gauteng, weather conditions are expected to be cloudy and warm with widespread rainfall and thundershowers throughout Sunday (04 January).
• Mpumalanga and Limpopo are forecast to experience cloudy conditions with scattered to widespread thunderstorms, particularly along the escarpment and Highveld areas.
• Free State and North West provinces are expected to see widespread rainfall and thunderstorms, with fog patches in the east during early morning hours.
• KwaZulu Natal may experience isolated to scattered thunderstorms, especially in the western interior, with morning fog in places.
• Northern Cape and Western Cape are forecast to experience mixed conditions, including isolated rainfall in the east of the Northern Cape and very hot conditions with high fire danger in parts of both provinces.
• Extremely high fire danger conditions were highlighted for Dawid Kruiper and Kai Garib municipalities in the Northern Cape and the West Coast District of the Western Cape, alongside storm risks.
