Restriction on heavy transport implemented on Quito corridors from Thursday (01 December)

As per reports, Traffic restrictions on heavy transport have been implemented in Quito, effective from Thursday (01 January), following enforcement operations initiated by the Metropolitan Transit Agency.

• From Thursday (01 January), enforcement operations are expected to be conducted daily from 0600 hours local time (1100 hours UTC) to 1000 hours local time (1500 hours UTC) on Simón Bolívar Avenue and Ruta Viva.
• Authorities confirmed that within the next four months, similar restrictions are expected to be extended to afternoon peak hours from 1600 hours local time (2100 hours UTC) to 2000 hours local time (0100 hours UTC).
• The restriction applies across the full length of Simón Bolívar Avenue, from the Santa Rosa curve south of Quito to the Pan-American Highway North, and along the entire Ruta Viva corridor within the Metropolitan District. Enforcement points were reported in the El Troje sector on Simón Bolívar Avenue and at kilometer 01 of Ruta Viva.
• Additional preventive traffic safety operations have also been announced. Speed control checks are scheduled on Mariscal Sucre Avenue between La Universitaria and Mañosca from 1000 hours local time (1500 hours UTC) to 1200 hours local time (1700 hours UTC), and on Ruta Viva at kilometer 8 from 1330 hours local time (1830 hours UTC) to 1430 hours local time (1930 hours UTC).
