The National Hydrometeorological Service of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Kazhydromet) has issued weather warnings across Kazakhstan on Wednesday (17 December). The following are the additional details:
• Widespread snowfall and snowstorms are expected across northern, central, and eastern parts of the country, with ground blizzards likely to reduce visibility, particularly during overnight and morning hours. Icy road conditions are anticipated in multiple areas due to freezing temperatures combined with precipitation.
• Fog formation is expected across western, southern, central, and mountainous areas, which may further impact visibility during night and early morning hours. Strong southwesterly, westerly, northeasterly, and northwesterly winds are forecast across large parts of the country, with gusts generally reaching 15 to 20 metres per second, and locally up to 23 to 28 metres per second, particularly in open and northern regions.
• Urban centres including Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Karaganda, Semey, Petropavlovsk, Aktau, Kokshetau, Zhezkazgan, Taldykorgan, Konayev, Taraz, Pavlodar, and Kyzylorda are expected to experience a combination of snow, fog, icy roads, and strong winds at various intervals through the day.
