As per reports, the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation (DIHIDRONAV) of the Peruvian Navy has issued an official warning that the entire Peruvian coastline may experience an unusual increase in wave height until Thursday (11 December).

• This period is expected to be marked by fluctuating wave intensity that may force the suspension of port operations and restrict recreational beach use. Authorities emphasise that wave behaviour may not be uniform across the coastline and may require constant monitoring and preventive measures to avoid accidents and material damage.
• In the central region, light waves may begin early on Monday (08 December), rising to moderate levels during the early hours of Tuesday (09 December), before reducing back to lighter conditions on Wednesday (10 December).
• Coastal areas between Salaverry and Pisco, as well as the stretch between Pisco and San Juan de Marcona, may experience similar patterns, although the latter area is expected to experience more intense anomalous movement on the afternoon of Wednesday (10 December). On the southern coast, only light swells are expected during the afternoon of Wednesday (10 December).
• According to DIHIDRONAV’s wave scale, light swells may reach up to 50 percent above normal height, moderate swells can reach twice the normal height, and heavy swells can measure two to three times higher than usual.
• The National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI) has urged municipalities and local authorities to provide clear public information and to prioritise safety by restricting fishing, suspending port operations, securing vessels, and discouraging all sports and recreational activities at sea until Thursday (11 December).
