As per reports, authorities in Lumajang Regency temporarily suspended all mining activities along the Besuk Kobokan River due to ongoing volcanic hazards linked to Mount Semeru on Sunday (23 November).

• Volcanic material accumulated along the river remains extremely hot, and heavy rainfall has triggered frequent small eruptions and bursts of thick white smoke along the river flow.
• Officials confirmed that the volcanic deposits in several river basins originating from Mount Semeru are unstable and continue to react when exposed to heavy rain, increasing the likelihood of sudden lava floods.
• Following multiple observations of hazardous activity, the Lumajang Regency Government issued a circular directing all sand miners to halt operations until conditions are declared safe.
• Mount Semeru remains at Alert Level 4, indicating a high level of volcanic activity and potential danger. Recent rainfall has intensified interactions with volcanic sediments, causing localized eruptions along the Besuk Kobokan River.
