As per reports, on Wednesday (15 October), Spain is expected to experience a nationwide general and student strike in support of the Palestinian people and against the conflict in Gaza.
• The strike has been called by unions including the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), Workers’ Solidarity, the Class Trade Union Alternative (ASC), and the Intersindical Confederation, alongside groups such as Madrid for Palestine, the Spanish-Palestinian Association, and the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) movement.
• The strike includes 24-hour work stoppages by CGT, partial stoppages by UGT and CCOO and student strikes across high schools and universities.
• Demonstrations are reportedly planned in over 40 cities, with major marches in Madrid from Atocha Station to Sol and in Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Bilbao, and Malaga.
• The organizers demand an immediate ceasefire, an end to violence, and the severing of diplomatic and trade ties with Israel by the Spanish state, aiming to maintain public attention on the situation in Palestine.
