The following are the latest updates on prevailing weather conditions in Uttarakhand as of Wednesday (17 September):
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for very heavy rainfall in Dehradun, Champawat, and Nainital, and a yellow alert for heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in the rest of the state, including Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Pauri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Udham Singh Nagar, Bageshwar, and Haridwar, on Wednesday (17 September).
• As per the nowcast valid up to 0900 hours, an Orange Alert for moderate rainfall with thunderstorms remains active in Pauri Garhwal, Almora, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, and Champawat, while a Yellow Alert for light rainfall is active in Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh.
• At least 15 people have been killed, with 13 casualties reported from Dehradun district. 16 people remain missing, and more than 900 people are stranded due to heavy rainfall, cloudburst incidents, and swelling rivers.
• The Haridwar–Dehradun–Mussoorie road remains closed due to landslides. Additionally, Jharipani, Chunakhala, Kimadi, and several other routes to and from Mussoorie remain blocked as of the last update.
• Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced INR Two lakh financial assistance for the next of kin of victims from Uttar Pradesh.
