As per reports, flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms struck Morocco’s Al Haouz province on Tuesday (09 September), causing casualties and significant infrastructure damage across multiple communities.
• One shepherd was killed in the village of Imi N’Tala after being swept away by strong flood currents on Monday (08 September).
• Flash floods impacted several areas including the provinces of Agouatim and Moulay Brahim, as well as villages of Akni, Asni, and Ouirgane. Flooding extended to the Imlil region and valleys such as Ghghaya and Bahja.
• Floods swept away cars, submerged homes, disrupted major traffic routes between Marrakech and Moulay Brahim, and damaged shops and residences. In the Imlil region, torrents carrying massive boulders and tree trunks devastated agricultural crops and washed away entire road sections.
• In the Drâa-Tafilalet region, floods cut off several major roads, paralyzing traffic and leaving vehicles stranded in sand.
• Local authorities have declared a state of alert and mobilized rescue teams and emergency equipment to conduct repairs and provide assistance to affected residents.
