As per reports, update on the Maratha agitation by Manoj Jarange, as of Sunday (31 August) is as follows:
• The Maratha agitation has entered its third day on Sunday (31 August) as protesters continued to gather at Azad Maidan in large numbers since morning hours. The area around Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) reported heavy footfall, with demonstrators arriving from various parts of the state.
• Significant traffic congestion has been reported near CSMT junction. Police personnel have been deployed in large numbers to manage the situation and keep key routes open for essential traffic. However, major roads like Mahapalika Marg and the JJ Flyover remain closed for public transport, and traffic is being diverted via alternate routes.
• Around 200 vehicles belonging to protestors are currently parked along roads near Azad Maidan, with participants maintaining a constant presence at the site.
• Maratha protesters carrying food and water supply are currently on their way to Mumbai from Nashik. Around five to six cars have been reported on the way so far.
• Meanwhile, trade associations in South Mumbai has stated that the agitation has disrupted traffic across the southern region and is also leading to financial losses. They have demanded that the High Court or state government should intervene at the earliest.
• Sharad Pawar is expected to leave for Mumbai from Pune at 1500 hours on Sunday (31 August) to interact with Manoj Jarange Patil. Traffic delays can be anticipated along Mumbai-Pune highway as security personnel may halt traffic to make way for the VIP convoy.
