The New Zealand MetService has issued a thunderstorm outlook on Monday (25 August). An unstable easterly flow is affecting the upper and central North Island, with scattered heavy showers and a low risk of thunderstorms.
• A moderate risk of thunderstorms is forecast for the Coromandel Peninsula, northern Auckland, and eastern Northland. These storms may produce localised rainfall rates of 10–20 mm per hour and small hail.
• Elsewhere in New Zealand, there is only a minimal risk of thunderstorms or significant convection during this period
