The Kazakhstan Meteorological Service (Kazhydromet) has issued storm warnings indicating thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, hail, strong winds, dust storms, and high to extreme fire danger across multiple regions on Monday (25 August).
• In Zhetisu Region, northeasterly winds are expected in the east and north, gusting 15 to 20 metres per second (m/s). High fire danger will remain in the south, east, and north.
• In the Ulytau Region, high fire danger will persist in the east.
• In the Karaganda Region, extreme fire danger will persist in the south.
• In West Kazakhstan Region, heavy rain, hail, and squalls are expected in the west, north, and centre, with thunderstorms forecast. South to southeast winds will gust 15 to 20 m/s. High fire danger will persist in the southwest, with extreme fire danger in the west. Uralsk is forecast to have heavy rainfall, hail, squalls, and thunderstorms in the afternoon.
• In the Turkestan Region, a dust storm is expected in the north. Northeasterly winds will gust 15 to 20 m/s in the north, west, and mountainous areas. Extreme fire hazard will remain across the region. Shymkent city will remain under extreme fire hazard, while Turkestan city is forecast to experience northeasterly winds of up to 20 m/s, with the extreme fire hazard persisting.
• In the Almaty Region, high fire danger is expected to persist, with extreme fire danger in the north and west. Almaty city and Konayev city will remain under high fire danger throughout the period.
• In Atyrau Region, thunderstorms, hail, and squalls are expected in the west and north, with a dust storm in the east during the day. Southeast winds will shift to southwest, gusting 15 to 20 m/s. Severe heat of 31 to 36 degrees Celsius is forecast. Extreme fire hazard will remain in the west and east, with high fire hazard in the centre.
• In East Kazakhstan Region, thunderstorms are expected in the north and east in the morning and afternoon, with fog at night and in the morning. Northwesterly winds will gust 15 to 20 m/s in the west, north, and south during the afternoon. High fire danger remains in the north, southeast, and centre.
• In the Abai Region, thunderstorms are expected at night and in the morning in the north and centre. Northerly to northeasterly winds will gust 15 to 20 m/s in the southwest, east, and centre. High fire danger is expected in the centre and will remain in the west and south.
• In the Kyzylorda Region, a dust storm is expected in the east during the day. Northeasterly to easterly winds will gust 15 to 20 m/s. Kyzylorda city is forecast to have a dust storm in the afternoon with winds gusting 15 to 20 m/s. Extreme fire hazard will remain across the region.
