The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, squalls, and strong surface winds in parts of Tamil Nadu from Friday to Tuesday (22-26 August).

The details are as follows:

• Friday (22 August): Yellow alert for thunderstorm, lightning, and squalls issued in Chennai. No warnings have been issued in Ranipettai, Vellore, Tiruppattar, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Perambalur, Namakkal, and Karur. The rest of the districts are under a yellow alert for thunderstorm, lightning, and squalls.
• Saturday (23 August): Yellow alert for thunderstorm, lightning, and squalls issued in Chennai. No warnings have been issued in Ranipettai, Vellore, Tiruppattar, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Erode, Kallakkurichi, Thiruchirapalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Namakkal, and Karur. The rest of the districts are under a yellow alert for thunderstorm, lightning, and squalls.
• Sunday (24 August): No warnings have been issued for Chennai. Yellow alerts for thunderstorm, lightning, and squalls have been issued in Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram. No warnings have been issued for the rest of the districts.
• Monday (25 August) and Tuesday (26 August): No warnings have been issued.
