As per reports, the Elkhorn Fire, located in the Salmon-Challis National Forest, has grown to approximately 953 acres by Thursday (14 August). The fire located ca. 53 kilometres north of Stanley was ignited by lightning around the Middle Fork of the Salmon River.

It is one of multiple wildfires currently active in the forest region, as fire officials face an intensifying seasonal wildfire load.
