As per reports, heavy rainfall was reported across the Hokuriku region on the Sea of Japan coast due to a lingering band of rain clouds, with the weather agency warning of landslides, flooding in low-lying areas and swollen rivers, on Thursday (07 August).
• A band of clouds was confirmed over Kaga in Ishikawa Prefecture, while a low-pressure system with a front is moving northeast over the Sea of Japan. The front is expected to shift southward through Friday (08 August) and remain over areas from eastern to western Japan into the following day.
• Warm, humid air is flowing toward the low-pressure system and its front, making atmospheric conditions extremely unstable across a wide area from northern to western Japan. The agency said some regions could face heavy rainfall through Friday (08 August).
• Rainfall totals in the 24 hours through 0600 hours on Friday (08 August) are forecast to reach up to 150 millimeters (mm) in the Tohoku region, north of Hokuriku, and in the northern part of Kyushu in southwestern Japan. Hokuriku is projected to receive 120 mm.
• As of 0851 hours, the Aomori Regional Meteorological Observatory issued a heavy rain warning (flooding) for Goshogawara City, a heavy rain warning (landslides and flooding) and a flood warning for Tsugaru City. A flood warning was also issued for Ajigasawa Town.
• As of 0615 hours on Thursday (07 August), Kanazawa City issued an evacuation order to 20,619 households in three surrounding districts and six schools due to the increasing risk of flooding in the Kanazawa River that runs through the city.
• The evacuation orders were issued for three districts: Kawakita, Konan, and Morimoto, and six schools: Kosaka, Moriyama, Chisaka, Asanomachi, Yuhiji, and Oura.
• The alert level is Level 4 out of five, and everyone is being urged to evacuate from dangerous areas. Following the evacuation order, Kanazawa City has opened evacuation shelters in nine locations within the city.
• According to JR West, as of 0930 hours on Thursday (07 August), Hokuriku Shinkansen service has been suspended between Nagano Station and Kanazawa Station due to heavy rainfall.
