According to reports, heavy to intense rainfall is forecast to continue in Metro Manila and other areas as on Monday (21 July) due to the southwest monsoon or “habagat”, as per the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
• In its weather advisory at 2300 hours on Monday (21 July), PAGASA stated that rainfall between 100 mm – 200 mm is forecast in Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas and Rizal till Tuesday evening (22 July). Pangasinan, Tarlac, Laguna, Quezon, and Occidental Mindoro are to receive 50 mm – 100 mm rainfall.
• From Tuesday evening to Wednesday evening (22-23 July), Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Rizal and Occidental Mindoro are forecast to receive rainfall between 100 mm – 200 mm. Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Masbate, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental are to receive 50 mm – 100 mm rainfall.
• From Wednesday evening to Thursday evening (23-24 July), Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro are forecast to receive rainfall between 100 mm – 200 mm. Metro Manila, Apayao, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Masbate, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Sur, Aklan, and Antique are to receive 50 mm – 100 mm rainfall.
• Additionally, the La Mesa Dam was overflowing due to incessant rainfall on Monday afternoon (21 July). In an update issued at 1600 hours, PAGASA stated that the water level of the La Mesa Dam reached 80.16 meters as of 1500 hours. The agency earlier noted that the dam would overflow once the water level reaches 80.15 meters.
• Waters from the dam are expected to affect the following low-lying areas: Tullahan River from Quezon City (Fairview, Forest Hills Subdivision, Quirino Highway, Sta. Quiteria, and San Bartolome); Valenzuela (North Expressway, and La Huerta Subdivision); and Malabon.
