Power outages reported in Virginia on Thursday (17 July)

As per reports, more than 4000 customers of the Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) experienced a widespread power outage across Greene, Madison, and Orange counties in Virginia on Thursday (17 July) afternoon.

• The disruption began around 1400 hours (local time) due to a failure in a transmission feed serving a portion of REC’s system.
• The outage area includes Dyke (west), Locust Dale (east), Brightwood (north), and Somerset (south).
• As of 1600 hours (local time), REC’s outage map confirmed 4,067 customers were affected.
• As of 4:00 PM, REC’s outage map confirmed 4,067 customers were affected.
• Full restoration is estimated by 1800 hours (local time).
