As per reports, the police have announced in front of the Rabindra Nagar police station that Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been imposed in the area. An official printed order for the same is awaited and following are related updates;
• The gathering of five or more people is prohibited according to the aforementioned order. The announcement was made by the Diamond Harbour Police District on the microphone. The Rabindra Nagar police station area of Maheshtala is included in the Diamond Harbour Police District.
• Police have stated that five persons were injured in the clashes while four were arrested. Earlier on Wednesday (11 June), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) led by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari marched to State Police Headquarters, Bhabani Bhawan in Kolkata to meet the Director General of Police (DGP) over violence in Rabindra Nagar, South 24 Parganas as well.
• Additionally, the BJP demanded deployment of central forces in the area, while the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) accused the BJP of politicising the issue.
• The West Bengal Police later stated that normalcy had been restored, though the area continued to remain tense.
