As per reports, seven COVID-19 cases were confirmed in SPSR Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, prompting the District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) to initiate strict containment and surveillance measures on Saturday (07 June).
The details are as follows:
• The Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) conducted 12 RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests at ACSR Government Medical College and General Hospital (GGH), confirming six COVID-19 cases on Friday (06 June), with one more case detected on Saturday (07 June) in Nellore.
• A total of 27 primary contacts were tested immediately; all tested negative except one. Secondary contacts of the positive patient are now being traced.
• All infected individuals have mild symptoms and are under home isolation.
• In response, the authorities have distributed approximately 1,000 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) kits across 80 Primary Health Centres (PHCs).
• Moreover, the Government General Hospital (GGH) Superintendent confirmed that a 30-bed COVID-19 ward has been established within the Department of Pulmonology, staffed by over 14 doctors and 12 nurses. The hospital is prepared to expand its capacity with an additional 40-bed extension ward should the number of cases rise.
