As per reports, Bengaluru is experiencing widespread rainfall and thunderstorms due to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Bay of Bengal on Sunday (18 May).

• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city and 22 other districts in Karnataka, effective until Thursday (22 May) indicating the likelihood of moderate to heavy thundershowers and gusty winds.
• Bengaluru experienced about 40 millimeter of rainfall, resulting in widespread waterlogging in low-lying areas such as Nagavara Road, Domlur, and Sai Layout. Several roads, including MG Road, Residency Road, Richmond Road, and others in central and eastern Bengaluru, were severely congested, causing six-hour-long traffic delays in some locations on Sunday (18 May).
• Other key stretches affected include Panathur–Ecospace Tech Park, Koramangala fifth Block, Hebbal Flyover, and Tindlu Railway Underpass. Flooding caused damage to homes, vehicles, and electronic appliances, and many residents were displaced due to inundation.
• Drainage infrastructure in affected areas failed to cope with the rainfall, as multiple complaints regarding blocked drains reportedly remained unresolved. In addition, traffic disruptions coincided with a major cricket match, compounding congestion and delays.
• Additionally, the IMD forecasts continued rainfall in Bengaluru until Friday (23 May).
