According to reports, residents and union members in Tauranga staged a protest on Friday (09 May) at Red Square in opposition to the New Zealand government’s urgent legislative changes to the Equal Pay Act.
• Protesters raised concerns that claimants will now be required to reapply under a new framework with a higher threshold for success.
• Demonstrators criticised the reforms, arguing that they would disproportionately impact women and undermine previous progress in achieving pay equity.
