As per reports, on Monday (07 April) from 0930 hours to 1830 hours local time, the Teachers’ Union at the María Auxiliadora Salesian School in Porvenir initiated a warning strike in response to ongoing irregularities in pension debt payments by their employer, Fide XII. A previous agreement to regularize these payments by 28 February was not fulfilled.
• According to union president Nicolás Vargas, the employer had requested an extension until 04 April to clear the remaining 25 percent of the debt, which amounts to approximately 50 million Chilean pesos. However, no confirmation of payment or follow-up communication was received from the employer
• As a result, the union decided to proceed with a progressive strike and warned that an indefinite strike would begin on Tuesday (08 April), should no formal response or payment confirmation be provided. The strike was carried out by 33 union members, including both teachers and educational assistants. The union notes that this number has declined compared to previous actions, as many staff have sought employment elsewhere due to repeated financial instability.
• Vargas highlighted that the strike is not only about unpaid contributions but also about broader financial concerns and the need for certainty around all pending payments. The union called for a concrete resolution and criticized Fide XII’s lack of a specific repayment timeline.
