As per reports, following are the latest updates on the farmers’ protest in Punjab and Haryana as of Sunday (06 April):

• A farmer leader of Bharti Kisan Union [BKU (Ekta Sidhupur)], Nirmal Singh Sidhu, was sent to judicial custody after a rally in the Muktsar District on Saturday (05 April), in which he had questioned Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian.
• Meanwhile, farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has planned a farmers’ gathering at the Doda village, also in Muktsar Distrct, on Tuesday (08 April).
• Dallewal, who is continuing his indefinite fast, was urged by Union Minister for Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan to end his fast; the Minister reiterated that the next round of talks between the Central Government and farmers will continue as scheduled, at 1100 hours of 04 May.
• Since the Punjab Police’s clearance of the farmers’ blockades at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders on 17 March, over 1400 farmers have been arrested and released in phases across the state.
• Farm leader Sarawan Singh Pandher announced that the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee will hold a meeting in Ludhiana on Monday (07 April) to plan the next course of action for subsequent protests.
• While farmers’ bodies in Haryana have largely stayed away from the recent protests by Punjab farmers, a number of protests over localised issues have arisen in recent days.
• On Saturday (05 April), seed and pesticide dealers in Jind on the banner of the Jind District Fertiliser, Seed, and Pesticide Dealers Association staged a protest outside the office of the Deputy Director of Agriculture against a new law – the Insecticides (Haryana Amendment) Act, 2025 – demanding its immediate withdrawal. The association took objection to stringent provisions under the law, which classifies the sale of poor quality fertilisers as a non-bailable offence, punishable with jail.
• While wheat procurement across Haryana has commenced as of April, farmers at the Sampla Grain Market in Rohtak District have flagged concerns over high moisture content in the procured crops. A former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State Minister and the Sampla Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) visited the grain market on 04 April and extended assurances to farmers; however, farmers have stated that if the issue is not resolved in a timely manner, they will raise the issue with the Haryana Chief Minister (CM).
• Farmers in the Jind District also staged protests on 03 April at the New Grain Mandi against alleged discrepancies in the procurement of mustard crops. These protests were led local units of the BKU, who warned of further protests if the issue is not resolved.
