BMKG issued an early warning for potential high waves in several marine areas from Tuesday to Friday (18-21 February)

As per reports, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning for potential high waves in several marine areas between Tuesday to Friday (18-21 February). Authorities have stated that Cyclone Seed 93W in the South China Sea continues to increase the sea wind speeds and wave height making it risky for maritime activities.

The wind is stronger in the southern region, reaching a maximum speed of 30 knots to the northwest. The highest wind speed is observed in the West Indian Ocean region of Lampung, the South Indian Ocean region of Banten, Makassar Strait, and the Arafura Sea.

• Authorities have urged fishers and other vessels in the western part of Lampung and southern Banten to remain safe and be wary of high waves, potentially reaching up to 2.5-4 meters in height.
• There is a potential for high waves reaching up to 1.25-2.5 meters in the northern part of the Malacca Strait, from the Nias Islands to Bengkulu along with other areas.
• Ferry captains have been urged to exercise caution as wind speeds are likely to exceed 21 knots and wave heights surpass 2.5 meters. While Captains of larger vessels, including cargo and cruise ships, are urged to be cautious of wind speeds above 27 knots and wave heights exceeding 4 meters.
