As per reports, snowfall is forecast to return to London, with weather maps indicating snowfall over a two-day period from 1800 hours (local time) on Friday (24 January) until 1200 hours (local time) on Saturday (25 January).
• Snowfall rates are expected to reach up to 0.5 centimeters per hour during the aforementioned period. London, which recently experienced a cold snap with temperatures as low as negative three degrees Celsius, has seen a temporary rise in temperatures above freezing. However, temperatures are projected to drop back to freezing levels next week, with highs reaching five degrees Celsius on Wednesday (22 January), before the onset of snowfall.
• The Met Office forecasts unsettled, milder, and windier conditions influenced by a dominant Atlantic flow during the week. However, brief colder spells with frost, ice, and snowfall remain a possibility, particularly with deep lows crossing the region. Over the weekend, temperatures are expected to remain around freezing until Sunday (26 January), when they are expected to rise slightly to three degrees Celsius.
• The recent frosty conditions have caused disruptions, including frozen fountains in Trafalgar Square, prompting warnings from the London Fire Brigade. Additionally, the ongoing cold spell has triggered cold weather payments from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to assist residents with heating costs.
