As per reports, consular and travel disruptions have been reported between Venezuela, and Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Peru and Uruguay as widespread protests broke out across the country following the swearing-in of President Nicolas Maduro for his third term. Following are the latest updates as of Saturday (11 January):

• Flight disruptions have been reported between Venezuela and Chile, the Dominican Republic, Panama and Peru. This comes amid an ongoing 72-hour closure of the border and airspace between Colombia and Venezuela, which was instituted from Friday (10 January) onwards.
• Brazil’s Government announced on Friday (10 January) that officials in Venezuela had ordered the countries shared border to be temporarily closed. Brazil’s Foreign Ministry, stated that the border closure will remain in place through next Monday (13 January), while Venezuela’s Information Ministry is yet to confirm such an order.
• Additionally, Uruguay’s Foreign Ministry issued a on Friday (10 January) advising against traveling to Venezuela, due to a high risk of “arbitrary detentions and kidnappings” by authorities and paramilitary groups. The Ministry also stated that at least one Uruguayan national is in the “missing persons” list amid the Venezuelan unrest.
