As per reports, the deep surface depression accompanied by an upper-atmosphere depression is currently centered over southern Europe, significantly influencing weather conditions across Egypt which may lead to sand and dust storm and heavy rainfall in certain areas of Egypt on Tuesday (24 December).
• This system is generating active southwesterly winds, leading to sand and dust storms over the northwestern coasts, including Alexandria and Marsa Matrouh, the Western Desert, and exposed areas of Greater Cairo, including Giza and 6th of October City, as well as parts of Lower Egypt, such as Tanta and Zagazig. Maritime navigation in the western Mediterranean Sea, particularly near Alexandria and Marsa Matrouh, will be disturbed, with wave heights ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 meters.
• Temperatures during the day are expected to remain cold across northern regions, including Alexandria, Cairo, and Assiut, and extend to the northern parts of Upper Egypt. In contrast, South Sinai (Sharm El-Sheikh) and southern parts of Upper Egypt (Luxor, Aswan) may experience warm daytime conditions. At night and in the early morning, temperatures areexpected to plummet, creating very cold conditions across most parts of the country, with a heightened risk of frost formation on crops in central Sinai, northern Upper Egypt, and regions of the Western Desert.
• The Meteorological Department advised citizens to wear heavy winter clothing, especially during nighttime and early morning hours, to mitigate risks associated with the sudden drop in temperature.
