As per reports, students in Jharkhand are set to gherao (protest) the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) office in Ranchi on Monday (16 December) demanding the cancellation of the Jharkhand Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam results. The protest reportedly coincides with the JSSC’s scheduled certificate verification process for 2231 shortlisted candidates between Monday – Friday (16-20 December). Protest leader; Devendra Nath Mahato of the Jharkhand Loktantrik Kranti Morcha (JLKM) announced plans to disrupt the process, with students from all 24 districts arriving in Ranchi.

Meanwhile, authorities including the Ranchi police have reportedly fortified key locations such as the JSSC office, Raj Bhavan, the Chief Minister’s residence, and the Secretariat with barricades and deployed 1500 police personnel, three Rapid Action Force (RAF) companies, and surveillance equipment such as drones and CCTV cameras to maintain order. Vehicle checks and inspections at bus stands, and railway stations are underway to prevent protestors from assembling in large numbers.
