According to reports, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has decided to stop issuing new water connections to multistoried constructions exceeding four floors, due to the existing water supply infrastructure of the twin-city being under significant strain. This decision, made by Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Katkar in his capacity as MBMC administrator, aims to address the looming water crisis and maintain current supply levels for existing users.
The ban will remain in effect until the commissioning of the Surya Regional Water Supply Project, expected to augment supply by 218 million liters per day (MLD) by May 2025.
