As per reports, the latest situational updates in Manipur as of Thursday (03 October) are as follows:

• At least three persons, two civilians and a jawan of the Manipur Rifles, died of gunshot wounds in an exchange of fire between the residents of two villages in the Ukhrul district of Manipur on Wednesday (02 October). The incident, apparently the fallout of a boundary dispute, also left many others injured, prompting the authorities to impose an indefinite curfew in the area. An FIR has been registered and investigation is ongoing.
• Anticipating more violence, the state Home Department also temporarily shut down internet services, including broadband services, in the district as a preventive measure.
• Security forces recovered a huge cache of explosives, including 21 big and medium IEDs, at Senam village in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district, the police stated on Wednesday (02 October).
• Kuki groups negotiating with the government for the release of two Meitei hostages have added more conditions for their release. The Joint Action Committee formed for the release of the two youths initially called for a shutdown from 0300 hours on Tuesday (01 October) in the Thoubal district. By late Tuesday evening, it announced the extension of the bandh (shutdown) to the entire state.
• In a continued effort to maintain law and order, security forces have ramped up search operations and area domination exercises across the vulnerable and fringe areas of Manipur’s hill and valley districts. The movement of essential goods has been a priority, with 120 vehicles along NH-37 and 166 vehicles along NH-2 safely transporting necessary supplies. Authorities have implemented strict security protocols at vulnerable points, deploying security convoys along sensitive stretches to ensure the free and secure flow of traffic. Furthermore, a total of 110 nakas (checkpoints) have been established across various districts, both in the hill and valley regions.
• Unidentified men shot dead a self-styled town commander of a proscribed militant outfit near Leishang village in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, police stated on Wednesday (02 October). The deceased, a member of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), was a resident of Kaprang village in the southern district of the state. The incident occurred around 1.5 kms from Torbung Bungalow in Churachandpur at 0015 hours on Tuesday (01 October).
