The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning across all districts of Delhi on Wednesday (28 August). Following are the latest updates:
• With rainfall on 23 days, Delhi saw the highest number of rainy days in the last 14 years this August; a “rainy day” is when the city receives more than 2.4 mm of rainfall. The previous highest was 22 days, recorded in 2012.
• Additionally, August this year was also one of the wettest months for Delhi, with the city recording 291.6 mm of rainfall till Tuesday (27 August), the highest in the last 10 years.
• Several major roads, including stretches of Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, ITO area, Vikas Marg, Mathura Road, Pragati Maidan tunnel, Ashoka Road, Sangam Vihar, Mandi House, service lanes of Aurobindo Marg, parts of Rohini, and Mahatma Gandhi Marg, have developed major potholes due to rainfall. Several portions of a road near Shani Bazar Bandh Road in Sangam Vihar, and the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road near Saket Metro station have reported cave-ins in July, which have not been fixed for over a month.
• A spell of rainfall was reported on Wednesday (28 August) morning, due to which waterlogging has been recorded at Delhi Gate.
