As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the following alerts have been issued on Tuesday (16 April):

• A yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning and strong surface winds has been issued in Chandigarh.
• Yellow alerts for thunderstorms, lightning and strong surface winds have been issued in Haryana’s districts of Ambala, Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Kurukshetra and Kaithal.
• Yellow alerts for thunderstorms, lightning and strong surface winds have been issued in Punjab’s districts of Faridkot, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Nawanshahr, Mohali, Ropar (Rupnagar), Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, and Karputhala.
• The IMD has also forecast that a fresh wet spell is likely to commence on Thursday (18 April), thus conditions of thunderstorms and gusty winds are anticipated to continue in parts of Punjab and Haryana till Sunday (21 April).
