The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the following Forecast and Nowcast warnings for West Bengal on Friday (28 August), as per the District-wise forecast PDF documents issued on Thursday (27 August).
• Forecast: A yellow alert has been issued for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour, which are very likely to occur at one or two places in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Cooch Behar, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, Malda, Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, and Jhargram.
• Forecast: A yellow alert has been issued for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, and heavy rainfall ranging from 07 to 11 centimeters, very likely to occur at isolated places in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar.
• Nowcast: A yellow alert has been issued for light rainfall of less than 05 millimetres per hour and light thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speeds of less than 40 kilometres per hour in Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Uttar Dinajpur, Malda, Murshidabad, Birbhum, and South 24 Parganas. The alert is valid until 0300 hours (local time) on Friday (28 August).
