As per reports, retirees from Guayas have scheduled a sit-in protest on 03 September outside the SRI in Guayaquil to protest delays in VAT refunds. Organizers say some beneficiaries have been waiting more than five months for their refunds.
• The protesters are demanding compliance with the VAT refund processing periods cited in the report up to 60 days for older adults and 90 days for people with disabilities and want the SRI to expedite pending cases.
• The dispute also has a judicial dimension. A protective action filed by retirees in September 2025 was reportedly rejected at first instance, while representatives say a second-instance hearing has not yet been scheduled.
