As per reports, a protest by LaSalle College students and teaching staff is scheduled from 1100 hours local time (1500 hours UTC) to 1230 hours local time (1630 hours UTC) on Thursday (27 August).
• The protest is to be held out the institution located on Sainte-Catherine Street West in Montreal, to express concerns about the future of LaSalle College, which is threatened with permanent closure.
• The College recently placed itself under creditor protection and obtained a ten-day reprieve to reach an agreement with the Quebec government. The dispute concerns a debt of nearly CAD 50 million contracted because of quotas introduced following the adoption of the reform of the Charter of the French Language.
