The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the following Forecast and Nowcast warnings for Kerala on Wednesday (26 August).
• Forecast: A yellow alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, squalls and strong surface winds has been issued across all districts of Kerala.
• Nowcast: An orange alert for heavy rainfall measuring greater than 15 millimetres per hour and surface wind speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour in gusts has been issued for Alappuzha, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Kollam. The alert is valid until 0700 hours (local time) on Wednesday (26 August).
• Nowcast: A yellow alert for light rainfall measuring less than five millimetres per hour has been issued for Kannur, Kasaragod, Wayanad and Kozhikode, while a yellow alert for moderate rainfall measuring five to 15 millimetres per hour and maximum surface wind speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour in gusts has been issued for Thrissur, Malappuram, Palakkad, Ernakulam, Idukki and Thiruvananthapuram. The alert is valid until 0700 hours (local time) on Wednesday (26 August).
