Yellow heavy rain alert issued for parts of China on Wednesday (26 August)

The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) has issued a yellow heavy rainfall alert for parts of China on Wednesday (26 August).

• Torrential rainfall: Rainfall totals of 250 to 280 millimetres are forecast across parts of western Fujian, eastern Jiangxi, the Leizhou Peninsula, northwestern Hainan Island, the Hetao region of Inner Mongolia, northern Shanxi, central Hebei, southern Tianjin and the southern Liaodong Peninsula.
• Heavy to torrential rainfall: Heavy to torrential rainfall is expected across Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, eastern and southern Guangxi, western Hainan Island, southern Jiangxi, southern Hunan, western Guizhou, central and southern Yunnan, northeastern Qinghai, central Gansu, northern Ningxia, the Hetao region of Inner Mongolia, northern Shaanxi, central and northern Shanxi, central and southern Hebei, southern Beijing, Tianjin, the Liaodong Peninsula and northeastern Jilin.
• The affected areas are also expected to experience short-duration heavy rainfall, with maximum hourly rainfall of 40 to 70 millimetres, locally exceeding 80 millimetres. Thunderstorms, strong winds and hail are forecast in some locations.
