The Japan Meteorological Agency recorded a 5.5 magnitude earthquake near the East Coast of Hachijo-jima Island, Tokyo, on Friday (21 August) at around 2102 hours (local time).

The recorded seismic activity of the earthquake was three. No human casualties or damage to infrastructure have been reported so far. Further details awaited.
