As per reports, increased traffic is expected across several Italian roads from Friday (21 August) to Sunday (23 August), with holidaymakers returning from or travelling to tourist destinations.

• Reports indicate that more than 24 million vehicle journeys may take place across Italian roads and motorways between Friday (21 August) and Sunday (23 August), according to estimates from the ANAS Road Mobility Observatory.
• Viabilità Italia has announced red traffic conditions for the afternoon of Friday (21 August), the morning of Saturday (22 August) and the afternoon of Sunday (23 August), as traffic from holiday destinations towards major urban centres increases.
• Heavy vehicle restrictions are scheduled from 0800 hours local time (0600 hours UTC) to 1600 hours local time (1400 hours UTC) on Saturday (22 August), and from 0700 hours local time (0500 hours UTC) to 2200 hours local time (2000 hours UTC) on Sunday (23 August).
• The SS36 del Lago di Como e dello Spluga in Lombardy may experience increased traffic during the period.
• The main routes identified as potentially busy include the A2 Autostrada del Mediterraneo in Campania, Basilicata and Calabria, SS106 Jonica and SS18 Tirrena Inferiore in Calabria, A19 Palermo to Catania and A29 Palermo to Mazara del Vallo in Sicily, SS131 Carlo Felice in Sardinia, SS148 Pontina and SS7 Via Appia in Lazio, E45 comprising SS675 and SS3 bis across Umbria, Tuscany and Emilia Romagna, SS1 Via Aurelia across Lazio, Tuscany and Liguria, and SS16 Adriatica across Puglia, Molise, Abruzzo, Emilia Romagna and Veneto.
• Northern routes that may experience increased traffic include RA13 and RA14 in Friuli Venezia Giulia, SS36 del Lago di Como e dello Spluga in Lombardy, SS45 di Val Trebbia in Liguria, SS26 della Valle d’Aosta, SS309 Romea between Emilia Romagna and Veneto, and SS51 di Alemagna in Veneto.
