As per reports, a wildfire remains active in the Ostrovul Babina area near Chilia Veche in the Danube Delta, Tulcea County, after affecting approximately 700 hectares of dry vegetation and 1,000 square metres of forest as of late Tuesday (18 August).

• Firefighters from the Tulcea Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU Tulcea) conducted suppression operations throughout Tuesday (18 August). However, firefighting operations were suspended during the evening due to darkness and difficult terrain, as the remaining active fire outbreaks were located in areas that were challenging for emergency personnel to access.
• Authorities stated that the fire remained under monitoring overnight and that the affected forest area had not expanded. Emergency personnel are expected to conduct reconnaissance operations on Wednesday (19 August), following which authorities will determine whether active firefighting operations need to resume.
