Tropical Depression “Neneng” to enhance southwest monsoon across Philippines from Tuesday to Friday (18-21 August)

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) informed that the low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) developed into a tropical depression at 1400 hours (local time) on Tuesday (18 August).

In a briefing past 1700 hours (local time) on Tuesday (18 August), PAGASA stated that Neneng was located 1,025 kilometres east of extreme Northern Luzon at 1600 hours (local time).

• PAGASA expects Neneng to stay far from Philippine landmass, as it is heading toward Japan’s Ryukyu Islands and Taiwan. The tropical depression may also weaken into a remnant low over Taiwan on Thursday (20 August).
• Heavy to intense rainfall (100-200 millimetres) can be expected in Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro. Moderate to heavy rainfall (50-100 mm) can be expected in Metro Manila, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Laguna, Rizal, Antique on Tuesday-Wednesday (18-19 August).
• Heavy to intense rainfall (100-200 mm) is expected in Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro
Moderate to heavy rainfall (50-100 mm) is expected in Ilocos Sur, Abra, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro on Wednesday-Thursday (19-20 August).
• Moderate to heavy rainfall (50-100 mm) can be expected in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro on Thursday-Friday (20-21 August).
