As per reports, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has issued a yellow code warning for excessive rainfall and severe thunderstorms across southwestern and south-central Bulgaria on Sunday (09 August).
• The weather advisory applies to Blagoevgrad, Pazardzhik, Smolyan, and parts of the Sofia Region, while a green code remains in effect for the rest of the country.
• Meteorological models indicate cumulus and cumulonimbus cloud formation beginning over western regions during the morning hours and spreading eastward by afternoon.
• Active convective cells are expected to bring localized heavy rainfall, intense lightning strikes, and thunderstorm activity across affected mountainous and foothill zones.
• Maximum daytime temperatures across Bulgaria are forecast to range between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius, and approximately 30 degrees Celsius in Sofia.
• The affected areas include Blagoevgrad, Bansko, Pazardzhik, Panagyurishte, Smolyan, Chepelare, Samokov, and Elin Pelin, with key road corridors at risk including the A3 (Struma Motorway), A1 (Trakia Motorway), Route 19, and Route 86.
